Cross-cutting work and methods at the Young Foundation

Harnessing views from the ground up, taking inspiration from ideas across the globe, our products and services for central government broadly fit into eight categories as shown below:

1) Assess situation - policy development is far enhanced by fresh perspectives on what people really think and do. We are adept at illuminating knotty problems, with techniques varying from interview ethnography to citizen-centered workshops.

2) Gather ideas - to be effective, strategies must tap into insightful ideas. Our exceptional access to proven and promising approaches from across the globe in government, communities and third sector meets this need.

3) Broker connections - from policy development to implementation, we can translate and act as an honest and independent mediator between government, third sector and communities, so creating a shared agenda and common way of working.

4) Metrics for innovation - when reviewing how an option can be implemented, metrics are a fundamental prerequisite. Pathfinders for metrics on innovation, our team of experts can assist you to develop practical propositions for complex issues.

5) Finance for innovation - when developing action plans, the design of incentives for joined-up working and better outcomes is essential. Our groundbreaking work through Social Impact Bonds and the NHS regional innovation fund is applicable from health to criminal justice.

6) Pilot and diffusion support - the chances of success in moving from plans to action are greatly enhanced by experienced support. Our staff can provide one to one support to develop pilots and diffuse organisations to achieve desired results.

7) Venture support - when the challenge is to identify which of various ventures should be supported, or which innovations are best taken forward as enterprises, our Launchpad team are experienced in practical support to get them off the ground.

8) Innovation portfolio advice - if your challenge is to achieve a selection of investments that blends freshness and caution, risk and return, our experience on managing and advising on innovation funds from £1m to up to $1 billion (the USA Investing in Innovation fund) brings valuable insights.
