Alasdair Liddell

Alaisdair LiddellAlasdair is an independent consultant in health strategy, specialising in health system reform, innovation, strategic planning, strategic communications and infrastructure development.

His previous career includes twelve years in Chief Executive positions in the NHS; a further six years working at the most senior level in the Department of Health, as national Director of Planning for the NHS (extended later to cover social care and public health), with Board level responsibility for strategy, system reform, NHS information and IT, NHS Communications, and a number of key policy areas; and a founding role in a new media consultancy. He was a member of the top management board of the NHS for 12 years, between 1988 and 2000, and also has Board level experience in both charitable and private sectors.

He is advising the Young Foundation on innovation adoption and spread in the NHS, following publication of Innovation Health and Wealth: Accelerating adoption and diffusion in the NHS (of which he was lead author). He is also Chair of an Expert Panel set up to advise Health Ministers on the NHS Innovation Challenge Prize programme.

He was awarded the CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours 1997 for services to the NHS.
