Lucy Kimbell

Lucy KimbellAs head of social design, Lucy brings to the Young Foundation experience and knowledge from the field of design.

In the past decade, design professionals have brought their distinctive approaches, methods and tools to contemporary challenges as diverse as public service improvement, humanitarian development and creating more sustainable urban futures. Lucy's role at the Young Foundation is to help the organisation develop its own social design practice to contribute to its work on social innovation and social venturing. This draws on her extensive experience of leading multi-disciplinary design teams working for organisations such as Vodafone, Rich Mix and the BBC, and her teaching and research.

Lucy is also an associate fellow at Said Business School, University of Oxford, where she has been teaching design and design management to MBAs since 2006 including her MBA elective in Designing Better Futures. Her writing on design includes book chapters, papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference papers. Lucy is a regular keynote speaker on design topics in particular service design and the role of design in organisations. Her installation work has been shown internationally including at TEDGlobal (Edinburgh, 2011), and in group exhibitions such as Declining Democracy (Florence, 2011) and Making Things Public (Karlsruhe, 2005).
