Eleanor Cappell
Eleanor is a Social Entrepreneur in Residence (SEiR) hosted by NHS Birmingham East and North and is currently the Operational Lead for Healthy Incentives.
Healthy Incentives is a joint venture between the Young Foundation and NHS Birmingham Public Health that incentivise pregnant mothers and a supporting partner to quit smoking during and post pregnancy. The venture is interested in exploring the use of incentives to motive behavior change and tackle health inequalities.
Prior to this role, Eleanor was the Young Foundations first Social Entrepreneur in Residence (SEiR) hosted by NHS Birmingham East and North. As part of a trailblazing and unique partnership, as an embedded entrepreneur, Eleanor sought radical ways of tapping community and clinical knowledge to prevent illness, stimulate innovation and social capital. Ideas that receive the backing and support of a SEiR must have the potential for large social impact, innovation, strategic fit, sustainability and offer the scope to be replicated on a national scale. During her time as a SEiR, Eleanor linked to the Young Foundation practices of health and ageing with venturing and investment supporting two Birmingham based social enterprises; Saheli - which provides gym classes run by women, for women tailored to meet the specific cultural needs of women from ethnic communities and Start Again - working to increase the employability of young people at risk, experiencing or recovering from mental health issues through a customised football coaching programme.
Recently, Eleanor is in the process of completing a Masters in Strategic Health Commissioning at Birmingham Universities Health Service Management Centre. She is also a PRINCE II Practitioner and a SFEDI qualified Business and Social Enterprise Advisor. Before joining the Young Foundation, Eleanor worked to build and grow the capacity and sustainability of the third sector in the West Midlands, drawing on experience in public, private and voluntary sectors, and she was educated at Nottingham University graduating with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Social and Cultural Studies.
