Hands on social innovation (Malmö, Sweden)
The Young Foundation's Future Communities team ran two workshops in Malmö, Sweden, on the theme of "Hands on social innovation: tools for tackling urban deprivation".
The workshops brought together city officials from Malmö and neighbouring Copenhagen, area programme staff, academics, NGOs and representatives from the Malmö's Commission, to think about how to support local social innovation and develop practical initiatives drawing on lessons from Europe, the US and Australia.
The workshops are part of a broader social innovation programme for Malmö, which is focused on a socially sustainable future for the city. Area Programmes tackling entrenched social problems in the city's most deprived urban neighbourhoods - Herrgåarden, Holma-Kroksback, Lindängen and Seved - represent an important part of Malmö's social innovation strategy.
