Lunchtime Seminar with Frances O'Grady and Paul Nowak
Deputy General Secretary of The Trades Union Congress (TUC) Frances O'Grady and head of TUC's Organisation and Services department Paul Nowak will be giving a lunchtime seminar entitled, ‘Ready for Recovery? The union case for jobs, skills and a voice for working people'.
Frances became TUC Deputy General Secretary in January 2003, the first woman ever to hold this post. Frances has lead responsibility for a wide range of key areas of policy development across the TUC's work including trade union recruitment and organisation, inter-union relations and TUC services to members. She is a member of the Policy Advisory Council of the think tank, IPPR and joint Vice Chair of the LSC National Council.
Paul was one of the first intake of the TUC's ‘Organising Academy' in 1998 - and prior to this had been an active member of unions including the GMB, UNISON and CWU. In April 2000 he was appointed Regional Secretary of the Northern TUC where he was responsible for the TUC's work in the North East & Cumbria. In 2002 he was appointed to lead the TUC's work on organising and recruitment, which included the development of the TUC Organising Academy.
