Lunchtime Seminar with Richard Litchfield

Tuesday, 11 May 2010 13:00 - 14:00

Richard Litchfield, founder of Eastside Company, will be giving a lunchtime seminar on public sector commissioning.

Eastside is a consultancy firm that provides support services to third sector organisations including charities, housing associations, social enterprises. In particular, they assist organisations to use business-like or market approaches to address social problems. Richard founded the company five years ago after spending the early part of his career in investment banking.

In the last twelve months, Eastside has led the development of a national consortia for the third sector with partners such as Social Investment Business, National Housing Federation, the Eden Project and others. This new company - called 3SC - is a direct response to the changing face of public sector commissioning. Today, third sector organisations deliver some 2% of all public sector contracting in the UK. This is set to reduce further as commissioners structure contracts that are larger and over longer duration. 3SC is a management company, based on models in US and Australia, that brings together third sector organisations to co-tender and co-deliver public sector contracts. In this way 3SC aspires to build the scale of the third sector. 3SC has grown from a start-up to a company with £45m-revenues in a short space of time.

Richard will share about his experiences (and challenges!) of developing 3SC. He will discuss topics including how to manage consortia, build high growth social businesses, as well as the financial models needed for a new commissioning environment
