Protecting households using domestic energy storage
Almost one-quarter of UK households are now classed as being in fuel poverty, according to recent research from YouGov. However, future UK power systems also face significant additional challenges from climate change, increased demand and intermittent energy generation from renewables.
The vital task of matching demand to supply may be achieved by a dynamically priced domestic energy market. Smart, automated "home agents", possibly including energy storage, will be key to enabling households to interact with such a market and provide protection from price volatility. Dr Moriarty, Lecturer at the University of Manchester, will present a recent study on the behaviour of these agents, their impact on the supply system, and how households can be protected.
The event will be held in the Michael Young Room at the Young Foundation - to RSVP please reply to events@youngfoundation.org
