The Studio Schools Trust, a joint venture between Edge and the Young Foundation, welcomed an announcement today of a new type of school designed to engage more practical learners. The first Studio Schools, which will offer an innovative new curriculum involving practical learning and paid work, will open in September 2010 in Luton and Kirklees, with others due to open in 2011.

In partnership with the Department for Children, Schools and Families, these schools will be the first of their kind in the world and will cater for 14-19 year olds from a range of abilities. They will be designed to better suit the needs of young people who might not otherwise reach their full potential in traditional school environments.
