Seeking enthusiastic young people aged 13-19

SEEKING ENTHUSIASTIC YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 13-19

As part of The Youth of Today (formerly known as National Body for Youth Leadership) we are seeking young people to help us with the Youth Leadership Fund.

The fund is being managed by the Young Foundation as part of the work of The Youth of Today - a consortium of leading organisations working in partnership with the Department for Children, Schools and Families to increase the quality, quantity and diversity of opportunities for young people as leaders of change in their communities. (http://www.theyouthoftoday.org/)

The purpose of the Fund is to support innovative third sector organisations creating youth leadership opportunities. The Fund aims to invest £1m in youth leadership opportunities over the next 2 years and because it's about youth leadership, we want young people to lead us.

We are looking for young people aged between 13 and 19 years old who are interested in helping us give out our grants.

As part of a small team of young people, their main role would be to:
• Seek out innovative projects that might benefit from the fund and encourage them to apply.
• Review the criteria for the fund.
• Help choose organisations to fund.

And if you're wondering what young people will get out of it, we believe this will be an exciting opportunity for young people to influence how we invest in the youth sector, as well as gaining some experience of grant-giving and to see a different part of the funding world, have access to training and information on youth leadership and help make a countrywide social impact by giving out £1m to over 30 organisations across the country.

The commitment we are looking for from interested young people will be to:
• Attend our induction day on Saturday 11 July 2009 (10-4 pm, London)
• Attend investment committee meeting (London)
• Attend meetings with the team (we will decide the frequency and locations of these together at our induction day).
• Monthly telephone conferences with the team to catch up (remotely from home).

It is a voluntary role but we will cover reasonable travel expenses and offer training. Here is a more detailed role description and application form.

If you are interested, email caroline.donald@youngfoundation.org or call 020 8980 6263 to find out more by 30 June 2009.
