In this piece, which appeared in the FT on Saturday 6 June, Carmela Ferrara looks at neighbours and neighbourliness around the globe and the rise of 'community-building'.

As part of the piece Mandeep Hothi, Associate at the Young Foundation comments on how this 'neighbourliness' could increase.

In the current economic climate Mandeep argues that the recent shift means more people will begin to rely on their neighbours more - "We're definitely going to be shifting towards each other," he says. "We look for mutual support during tough times."
