Changing roles at the Young Foundation
Geoff Mulgan, Chief Executive of the Young Foundation, has been announced as the new Chief Executive of NESTA - the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. He will start in his new role in June 2011. Simon Tucker, currently Managing Director and Director of Ventures, will take over as Chief Executive at the Young Foundation.
Peter Wheeler, Chair of the Young Foundation's Trustees said: "We wish Geoff well in his new role and see his appointment as a vindication of the marvelous work the Young Foundation has been doing. The Young Foundation is in a great shape, led by a very strong team who are well able to take the organisation onto the next stage. I'm delighted that the trustees have appointed Simon Tucker to take over as Chief Executive in June."
Geoff Mulgan: "Working with the team here to build up the Young Foundation has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I'm very proud of the impact that so many of our ventures are having. In the past NESTA has worked closely with the Young Foundation and I am sure that collaboration will continue. Simon Tucker is uniquely well placed to lead the organisation: he has superb experience of getting difficult things done, has gained a reputation as a wise adviser to governments, foundations and NGOs, and understands the organization and its values inside out.'
Simon Tucker: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the Young Foundation into its next phase, with the support of a very strong management team - all of whom have great track records - and a very talented staff body. We have lots going at the moment and many more interesting projects in the pipeline."
Since its relaunch in 2006 the Young Foundation has grown to over 70 staff; has launched dozens of new ventures and helped many more, such as Studio Schools, UpRising, Maslaha, NeuroResponse, Working Rite and the School of Everything; has advised many national and local governments, businesses and NGOs around the world; has helped to build the field of social innovation globally through the Social Innovation Exchange (SIX); and has sustained an active programme of research on changing patterns of daily life.
