Cities in Transition Conference

Hosted by Barrow Cadbury Trust, in partnership with the Young Foundation, the 'Cities in Transition' conference on the 6th of December 2006 examined the challenges and opportunities facing such cities and provided a forum to share best practice and explore the right conditions for diverse cities to thrive and be successful.

A report published by the Barrow Cadbury Trust and the Young Foundation to coincide with the conference tells a ‘tale of four cities’, lifting the lid on the social challenges of two cities where the minority ethnic population has reached 50 per cent of the total population - LA and Toronto, (where white and visible minorities are included), and two that will do so in the next decade - Birmingham and Marseilles.

The Barrow Cadbury Trust conference looked at the key tensions and opportunities for the world’s cities undergoing the transition towards plural cities. The results will inform the Trust’s work as part of the development of a progressive migration agenda, which will inform the Trust’s strategic priorities for 2007. It will also inform the Trust’s work on ethnic minority and Muslim youth and political participation
