International Congress on Social Innovation

On the 28th to 29th of May, the Young Foundation, in partnership with TESE and a group of partners from the Portuguese public and private sectors, held a major International Conference on Social Innovation in Lisbon.

The conference focussed on how Social Innovation can address unmet social needs and how it can be replicated in different countries, with special attention to Portuguese speaking countries in Africa and Brazil.

Professor Anibal Cavaco Silva, the President of the Portuguese Republic, and Vladimir Spidla, the European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, participated in the conference, which focussed on the application of social innovation in three thematic areas: education and employment, health and quality of life, and communities and participation.

The goals of the Conference were:

  • To show what Social Innovation is, where and how it happens
  • To inspire the existing and potential changemakers
  • To accelerate Social Innovation in Portugal and in the World
