FAQs
How do I apply for a Young Foundation internship?
Please visit the how to apply section for information on the application and selection process and to fill out the online application form.
How long does an internship last?
Internships are for three months.
Is the internship full time?
We ask interns to commit to a minimum of three days a week. This enables interns to get the most out of the projects they are working on and to feel part of the team but also gives them the freedom to carry out other paid employment or work experience at the same time. The working day for interns is 8 hours around core hours of 10am - 4pm.
Is the internship paid?
Unfortunately, internships are not paid but we do reimburse travel costs to and from work (within London) and provide £5 a day as a lunch allowance. We also cover any other expenses incurred in the course of your work with us.
Can I still claim Job Seekers' Allowance if I am an intern?
Yes, as long you continue to actively seek employment throughout the internship and you notify your Jobcentre of any expenses you are being reimbursed. Click here for more information.
What do you assess intern applicants on?
We are looking
for analytical graduates from any background who have the creativity, self-management and
interpersonal skills to slot into a busy and hardworking team.
Do I have to have work experience to apply?
No, we do not expect you to have work experience. We do need to see evidence of your sustained commitment to solving social problems - this could be through volunteering, political campaigning, your studies or entrepreneurial activities.
What if I am not able to attend the intern workshop?
To apply for an internship you must be available to attend the intern workshop.
What does an intern selection workshop involve?
Intern workshops are very informal and are as much about you finding out more about the organisation as they are us finding out more about your interests. The workshop lasts for roughly three hours and will include group activities to get you thinking about an area of Young Foundation work as well as a half hour individual interview. It is a great opportunity to meet staff at the Young Foundation as well as people interested in similar areas of work.
Do I need a work visa to apply?
No. Internships are voluntary, unpaid roles and you do not require a work visa.
