Impact of the cuts

We are currently working in Camden, talking to residents about the impact of national and local cuts to public services, on the most vulnerable in the borough. We are using ‘day in the life of' ethnographies, WARM and other research techniques to tell the stories of how single parents, Somali families, Bangladeshi mums, carers, young people and older people with mobility and disability issues, are coping with changes to benefits and the re-organisation of services like children's centres, youth clubs and domestic care.

The Young Foundation is working in partnership with the London Borough of Camden to deliver this work. The information will be used by the council and other public sector agencies to inform policy and help protect the most vulnerable residents from the unintended consequences of service changes.

Initially the work is to be carried out in Spring 2012 but, as the impact of many of the changes to public services and benefit entitlements will not be felt for several years, our ambition is to continue the study for several years in partnership with other funders.
