Payment by Results
In recent years, a substantial amount of public money has been invested by the Government in services aiming to improve social problems. However, simply funding programmes of action in this way does not hold services to account for the results and outcomes they reach.
Payment by Results does exactly this - it is an approach where by service providers are held to account for the results achieved. It aims to improve efficiency, increase value for money, facilitate choice and enable public sector innovation. It is now used in a wide variety of policy areas - including Criminal Justice, Education and Health.
The Young Foundation is currently advising and supporting Local Authorities in designing and implementing Payment by Results pilots, with specific expertise in the field of Criminal Justice.
