Tackling Entrenched Deprivation on Small Estates
Funded by the Tenant Services Authority, the Young Foundation has developed a new model (approach?) to tackle long-term deprivation on small housing estates. The Small Estates Taskforce model, piloted on three small estates in Coventry, Kent and South Shields, involves working with local agencies and local communities to explore the causes of local issues and plan practical ways to overcome them.
The project culminated in April 2010, with the launch of ‘The End of Regeneration: improving what matters on small housing estates'. This toolkit provides a detailed description of the Small Estates Taskforce model, documenting the Young Foundation's experiences and findings from the three small estates, alongside recommendations to others wanting to follow a similar process.
In the summer of 2010, the Young Foundation will release a policy paper outlining the implications of this work for the regeneration and renewal field.
