International

The Young Foundation's international work links us to like-minded organisations around the world, as we jointly try to grow the field of social innovation. We have done work for the French government and other French organisations through Jim Ogg (based in Paris) and Kippy Joseph (based in New York). We have also undertaken advisory work and training with many governments around the world including China, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Japan.

Our international work is carried out through the Social Innovation eXchange (SIX) - a global network of over 700 individuals and organisations committed to promoting social innovation and growing the capacity of the field.

Our projects include:

  • The SIX website, a resource which aims to create an active community.  This year, SIX's events will include Innovation and Opportunity in an Ageing Society (sponsored by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Cisco)  in Paris, and the 'SIX and the City' Summer School, in partnership with the Lien Centre for Social Innovation which will be held in Singapore.
  • A study on social innovation in Europe prepared for the European Commission's Bureau of European Policy Advisors (BEPA).
  • Social innovator: The Young Foundation and SIX have now completed a major exercise (backed by Nesta) to survey, map and improve the many methods being used for social innovation around the world. The Open Book of Social Innovation was published on the web and in print in early 2010 as a shared resource for the global community to use, develop and improve.
