Solutions for entrenched deprivation in very local estates
The Young Foundation has been awarded Innovation and Good Practice funding by the Housing Corporation, which has now passed over to the Tenant Services Authority, to explore three small housing estates with entrenched problems with deprivation.
The Young Foundation is now working in Coventry, South Shields and Kent to explore how life can be improved for residents of three small, very different housing estates. We are working with residents, service providers, local agencies and the local authority to explore the causes of local issues and collectively discuss and plan practical ways to overcome them.
The project aims to:
- devise radical solutions, which will address social, environmental, physical, economic and / or tenure issues
- develop an action plan for each estate, with support from key local stakeholders
- develop a toolkit of replicable approaches
In 2009 the Young Foundation will produce a toolkit outlining how the project could be replicated on other estates in the UK.
