Space Unlimited
Space Unlimited, led by Heather Sim, began in 2003 when Scottish Enterprise brought together 600 young people, teachers from 12 secondary schools, and numerous companies for an experiment. The experiment showed that creating a space where people could take on roles they weren't used to could bring about new insights and encourage innovative working.
Space Unlimited is a consultancy where the consultants are teenagers, providing insights and tools for innovation to clients such as KPMG, Oracle and NESTA. A team of expert facilitators put young people in the lead, enabling them to apply their creativity to real issues facing organisations. Young people get the opportunity to gain real-life learning outside the school gates while Space Unlimited's clients get a new way of generating fresh insights that can improve businesses performance and enhance employee development.
Heather joined the Learning Launchpad portfolio in 2009 and since then we have helped her to develop a strategy for Space Unlimited's growth - so that more businesses, educators and young people can benefit from this creative experience.
Glasgow-based Space Unlimited are now looking to expand into England and develop their work with teachers, so that they can have a broader impact on how young people gain the skills they need - creativity, resourcefulness and resilience - for the 21st century.
