Dame Ruth Silver, head of Lewisham College, came to us with an idea in 2007 to set up a part-time route for mid-career professionals to pass on their skills in classrooms. Since then Louis Coiffait from research consultancy FreshMinds has taken up the role of social entrepreneur - building the idea from concept to operational organisation.

Work&Teach will enable people who love their profession or vocation and have considerable business or industry experience to pass on their skills to the next generation, while balancing other work or family commitments.

We know that young people lack access to successful role models who have "made it" in the areas they are interested in working in. And we know that many talented people who would love to give something back to their community and pass their skills onto the next generation find it difficult to do so - Work&Teach provides a part-time pathway into teaching for these people.

Louis is working with a number of different stakeholders to develop the model for Work&Teach and develop a pilot programme for the 2010/2011 academic year.
