Following Geoff Mulgan's visit in April 2009 to the launch of the New Zealand Centre for Social Innovation this feature article appeared in Your Weekend, a supplement distributed across New Zealand.

In it Geoff highlights how social innovation is gaining momentum during the current global recession and how many governments are establishing innovation teams to help deal with arising problems.

"Many of the recovery plans are now adding an innovation element.  And many places are looking at the 1 percent norm for public budgets, based on the simple principle that if you're not spending 1 percent of your budget on innovation, then you as a chief executive are not doing what needs to be done to prepare for the future."
