To move or not to move? (October 2009)

This report documents the findings of a research project designed to increase knowledge
and understanding about the residential relocation behaviour of older people in Wales and the choices and decisions they make about whether to move or to remain in familiar home and neighbourhood environments as they age.

It is now important to understand more about older people's residential relocation behaviour because policy makers are currently confronted with the needs for independent living, choice and quality of housing environment for an increasingly large ageing population. They must also take into account the need for sustainable community development, the building of socially inclusive societies and speedy responses to a shortage of housing, particularly in rural areas.
