This briefing was commissioned by the Communities and Local Government Department to inform the development of the 'Duty to Involve' - a duty which local authorities will have to work under from April 2008.

The following information is based on the views and experiences of local authority practitioners, policy advisors, national VCS umbrella groups and community organisations who attended a workshop on 11 June 2007.

It also draws upon the findings of the Transforming Neighbourhoods Consortium and Neighbourhoods Action Network and CDF's practice experience.
