We are pleased to announce that applications for the Young Academy Autumn 2016 programme are now open. The course will be delivered in Medway, Kent and we welcome applications from social entrepreneurs based in London and the South East of England.
The Young Academy supports early-stage social ventures working in the field of education. We provide an intensive 12-week taught curriculum comprising 12 workshops and the opportunity to proto-type and pilot ideas with customers and beneficiaries. The programme also helps ventures to understand the role that repayable finance could play in helping to achieve their goals. Each venture that completes the incubator programme has the opportunity to apply to the Young Academy investment fund for up to £150,000.
We are looking for social entrepreneurs who want to transform the way young people are prepared for life, and are strongly committed to reducing education inequality. Developing innovative ideas in areas that influence key aspects of young people’s lives, including early years, youth programmes, careers advice, education tech solutions and more. We are specifically looking for new ideas and ventures that are up to two years old and registered and operating in England. To understand the type of ventures we have supported previously please see Our Ventures.
Through the Young Academy, we seek to build strong links with local schools and other education institutions. We believe that holding the programme in Medway presents a unique opportunity for the local community to engage with innovative approaches to improving educational outcomes for its young people.
Since its launch in 2014, the Young Academy has supported over 40 education ventures from across England, having focused programme delivery to date in Nottingham and London. Since completing the programme, several of our ventures have been successful in securing external grant funding and investment. Some have gone on to win places on follow-on development programmes such as UnLtd’s Big Venture Challenge.
Applications close on 29th July 2016 and the programme will run from week beginning 5th September until December 2016. Early submissions are encouraged and shortlisted applicants will be invited for earlier interview slots before the closing date. Submissions should be made using the online portal on our website, if you have a query, please see the FAQs on our website or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
