Job title: Community Peer Researcher

Salary: £9.90 per hour (£11.05 London rate)

Time commitment: Approximately 20 hours between January and April 2022

Location: Remote, recruiting across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

About the role

We are looking for people who are curious and open-minded, who are keen to learn from and talk to other people about their experiences and opinions. As a community researcher working for The Young Foundation’s Institute for Community Studies, you will be trained and employed to talk to people in your local community and people in your ‘peer group’ (other people around the same age as you) about specific issues, challenges or topics that matter to them. The project will focus on young people’s experiences engaging in social action, specifically in activities such as volunteering. You do not need any previous experience – we are looking for who are eager to learn about the world around them.

Working with the Institute for Community Studies, you will be responsible for:

  • attending community research training sessions with the Institute for Community Studies
  • supporting the team to shape the methods used to engage other young people in the project
  • supporting the creation of interview questions and guides
  • conducting interviews and research activities with your peers (other young people in your community)
  • reflecting on and sharing your findings with the Institute for Community Studies
  • any other relevant duties as required by the Institute for Community Studies

  • Interest in research and a curiosity about issues that matter to you and other young people
  • Computer and digital literacy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • A ‘can do’ attitude
  • A willingness to learn
  • Good organisational skills
