About the Young Foundation
Connected, thriving communities are the foundation of our society. They keep us safer, happier and healthier – more resilient and able to face shared challenges. Today, The Young Foundation’s mission is to enable the development of connected, more sustainable and stronger communities across the UK. We do this through amplifying the stories and lived experiences of people in our communities; using this to drive locally-led community action and enterprise. We use what we learn across different communities to spot national patterns of need and opportunity, then work with national partners to support new ideas to tackle those shared challenges. Bringing together our own – and other people’s – work, we are building a shared body of evidence, tools and insight about how communities are taking action on the issues that affect them.
About the role
The Young Foundation is offering 6 month employment opportunities to young people to be trained and work as Peer Researchers. Peer Researchers are curious, open-minded people who are keen to learn from and talk to other people about their experiences and opinions. As a Peer Researcher working for The Young Foundation you will be trained and employed to talk to people in your local community and people in your ‘peer group’ (other people around the same age as you) about specific issues, challenges or topics that matter to them. You do not need any previous experience. We just look for people who are really curious and eager to learn about the world around them.
Working with the Young Foundation, you will be trained and supported to undertake a variety of research tasks and get involved in conducting peer research projects. You will be responsible for:
- Attending training sessions in peer research with The Young Foundation
- Learning about and then using peer research methods to deliver projects with other Kickstart Peer Researchers
- Recording and taking detailed notes of the research you undertake
- Maintaining accurate records and up-to-date monitoring information
- Reflecting on, writing up and sharing your findings with the Young Foundation team
- Responding and adapting to any issues with research participants
- Attending sessions and meetings with the research team and the partners we work with
- Participate in learning sessions with other Peer Researchers
- Plus any other relevant duties as required by The Young Foundation
