Matthew has worked at the heart of public policy for the last 20 years and became Trustee of The Young Foundation in 2022.
Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation since June 2021, he previously led the RSA for 15 years, transforming the organisation into a global institution, with 30,000 fellows and an influential research programme.
Before that, he was Chief Adviser on Political Strategy to Prime Minister Tony Blair, and he ran the Institute for Public Policy Research for four years. In 2016, he was commissioned by the Conservative government to carry out an independent review into modern employment practices.
As a respected commentator on policy, politics, and public service reform, Matthew regularly appears on national media, including as a panellist on BBC Radio 4’s Moral Maze.
