About the Young Foundation

Connected, thriving communities are the foundation of our society. They keep us safer, happier and healthier – more resilient and able to face shared challenges. Today, the Young Foundation’s mission is to enable the development of connected, more sustainable and stronger communities across the UK. We do this through amplifying the stories and lived experiences of people in our communities; using this to drive locally-led community action and enterprise. We use what we learn across different communities to spot national patterns of need and opportunity, then work with national partners to support new ideas to tackle those shared challenges. Bringing together our own – and other people’s – work, we are building a shared body of evidence, tools and insight about how communities are taking action on the issues that affect them.

About the role

We are looking for a Programme Manager to join our team. The role will involve managing current work and the development of new initiatives. The main programme you will be managing is Tower Hamlets Communities Driving Change. This programme supports local residents and stakeholders to design and deliver a range of projects to improve health and wellbeing in the north west of the borough. You will also support the Young Foundation team on other community-led change, community leadership and research projects.

About you

You are an energetic and proactive person with experience of working alongside communities. You are highly organised and have experience managing a range of programmes to time and budget.

You will be responsible for:

  • regular reporting to commissioners;
  • budget management;
  • communicating with commissioners, local steering groups and partners;
  • leading our volunteer and apprenticeship programmes;
  • overseeing the team which supports resident groups to lead the changes they want to see; and
  • overseeing monitoring, evaluation and learning and collaborating with the external evaluator.

You will have excellent communication skills. Building new partnerships, bid-writing and pitching, and producing high quality outputs are core parts of the role. Alongside this, you have a solid understanding of community organising and inclusion practices.  You are also experienced in training and mentoring junior staff and community volunteers.

As a small and dynamic organisation we are looking for people who have an inquisitive mind-set. We share our learning across the organisation and work as one team with our colleagues. Exploring what local initiatives tell us about the bigger picture of communities and the potential for community-led change is core to our mission.
