Community Advisory Board

After 25 years working in the utilities business, Steve went on to work in executive coaching and training, collaborating with others to develop and deliver learning programmes to clients in both public and private sectors.

He is a self-employed VCS Consultant in his home city of Sunderland, providing critical support at board and operational levels in the BME Community. In 2016, he provided support to boost the impact of The Young Foundation’s ‘Communities Can’ project, and then supported the restructure of a local Infrastructure organisation in Sunderland.

Sunderland is a city with high levels of deprivation across all parts of the community, particularly elements of the BME community. The City has suffered greatly from cuts in public funding and services. As a result, the VCS has become increasingly creative in how it responds to challenges and addresses gaps in services. It is the combination of service to the community, collaboration and creativity that inspires Steve.

He believes that being part of the Institute’s Advisory Board will provide an opportunity to both extend his knowledge of provision around the UK and provide new opportunities to inform and support the VCS community in Sunderland and beyond.
