Civic Scholar

Stuart Haw is a community development consultant and researcher.

He has experience of events, research and development in federations and local authorities. He worked at Vivacity, a charity providing ownership and management of previously local authority-owned assets in sports, arts, and cultural services. Inspired by the London 2012 Olympics, he studied for an MSc in sport management at Birkbeck College, University of London. While studying, Stuart worked for federations including British Fencing, British Athletics, England Athletics, and the Special Olympics GB.

Stuart’s PhD investigates the human capacity and capital required for community groups to successfully undertake an asset transfer, and manage and/or own, a facility that previously was owned by a local authority. This work has received increased attention with the financial challenges many authorities face themselves in.
