The Young Foundation is pleased to announce a groundbreaking partnership with London Sport to tackle inequalities in physical inactivity across the capital.
The project, set to run until November 2024, aims to gain deep insights into Londoners’ views on sport and physical activity and their experiences of getting more active in their local areas.
In a series of creative and participatory workshops across four London boroughs – Tower Hamlets, Barking and Dagenham, Lambeth, and Southwark – up to 40 participants will share their first-hand experiences and valuable perspectives on how Londoners could be better supported to live more active lives.
Insights from this research will be used to develop a capacity-building ‘toolkit’ that will empower London Sport staff and partners to more effectively address inactivity in the region. This resource will support London Sport’s broader strategic objectives, deepening understanding of how inequalities impact physical activity, and working with local people to design approaches to encourage more active lifestyles.
Our Head of Strategic Design and Insight, Siân Whyte, says:
“Through The Young Foundation’s work around the UK, we see and hear that local communities and citizens understand local needs best, with insights that are fundamental to tackling complex societal problems. We’re thrilled to embark on this new project, helping develop practical solutions to boost physical activity across diverse communities.”
Daniel Stracey, Head of Insight at London Sport, says:
“This project marks an important step as we at London Sport further our place-based work, embracing participatory approaches to better understand and respond to the needs of the London communities we support. We’re delighted to partner with The Young Foundation and look forward to building on the insights gained and innovative approaches undertaken.”
The project will culminate in a final learning and sharing event, bringing together organisations who may utilise the toolkit, and fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing in the sector.
