Join our network of net-zero changemakers
We are building UK-wide community of changemakers, working together to spark bold, collective action for a fairer, greener future
What's involved
Throughout an eight-month programme, Practice-Builders can benefit from three whole-cohort gatherings:
- Mapping your role in an emerging system (March 2026, provisionally in-person)
- Enabling participation in your practice (June 2026, online)
- Telling your story to influence change (September 2026, online)
Additionally, drop-in learning sessions will build connections and promote collaboration, sharing openly and reflecting with others.
- Quarterly practice digests, bringing together policy updates and exploring what they mean for you.
- Opportunities to contribute to evidence reflecting on-the-ground experiences of challenges, successes and insights that support transformative practice.
- Events, research and tools to amplify your practice, through partnerships with leading universities and our impact partners, including Runnymede Trust, Citizens UK, NHS Confederation and others.
- Practice-Builders are also invited to attend the JUST Centre’s annual conference, expected to take place in June 2026.
From 2028, those who participate in the Practice-Builders’ Network will have exclusive access to apply for funding to experiment with or develop approaches or projects that support place-based activities – with support and guidance along the way.
Applications for the first cohort close on Monday 10 November 2025 at 10am.
Apply to take partFAQs
The following information is designed to support your application and decision to join the Practice-Builders’ Network.
Who is eligible to apply?
Anyone from across the UK actively working for social, economic or environmental justice, whether through community action, direct delivery, policy, innovation or creative practice – people from all disciplines and backgrounds bringing hands-on experience are welcome.
We are particularly interested in hearing from those in Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Tyneside, West Yorkshire or West Cumbria – and anticipate that a significant number of Practice-Builders will either be based or working on projects relating to those geographies.
Do I need to belong to an organisation, or can I apply as an individual?
Applications will be led by a named individual, but you are welcome to apply if you are part of an organisation, collective or network, or as an individual.
How many people will be selected for each cohort?
We expect to engage up to 100 people across the five-year programme, with 30 to 40 selected for each cohort.
What is the expected time involvement?
Each cohort runs for eight months, with expectation at three core gatherings (provisionally March, June and September 2026). We hope that you will also join us in optional activities, such as drop-in learning spaces and events.
What will happen at the cohort gatherings?
Each gathering focuses on a key theme:
- Mapping your role in an emerging system (March 2026, provisionally in-person)
- Enabling participation in your practice (June 2026, online)
- Telling your story to influence change (September 2026, online)
Expect interactive sessions, peer learning, and practical tools. There will be around 30 to 40 Practice-Builders in each session, along with facilitators from The Young Foundation.
Will participants be supported to remain connected to the Network after the programme ends?
Yes, you will be part of an ongoing alumni network with access to events, updates, and collaboration opportunities. Practice-Builders have an exclusive opportunity to lead applications to the JUST Centre’s innovation fund from 2028.
What support is available to enable my participation?
For our in-person gathering in March, travel expenses will be paid for, and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. All venues will be fully accessible for those with limited mobility, and we will ensure that there are appropriate facilities to ensure everyone is comfortable in the space.
We also have a small accessibility budget, which might cover accommodation if you’re travelling an extended distance, support with the costs of childcare, or support to join sessions if funding is a barrier. Get in touch to explore this further.
