The Accelerator programme supported cohorts of early-stage education ventures working across these issues:

  • New teaching and learning approaches
  • Increasing young people’s engagement in science and maths
  • Mentoring and tutoring programmes
  • Careers education and employability skills
  • Life skills, resilience and character development
  • CPD to improve teacher retention and wellbeing

Between 2014 and 2020 we supported over 70 ventures. Here are some of our highlights:

Improved business capacity

  • One in five ventures has grown significantly with turnover increases of over £100,000
  • Over 2,100 hours of pro-bono support provided to ventures by Bank of America Merrill Lynch and UBS
  • 84% of ventures clarified their purpose

Increased access to capital to help ventures scale

  • 74% raised grants or investments following the programme
  • Ventures accessed over £4.5m of social finance in total
  • Over £1m invested from the Young Academy fund

Improved education outcomes for disadvantaged young people

  • 153,000 young people and 9,000 educators reached
  • 80% understood better how to test their social impact
