Our spokespeople
Helen Goulden OBE
Helen leads our multi-disciplinary team of researchers and innovators to support stronger communities across the UK. Previous roles were at Nesta, in the private sector, and in government. She was awarded an OBE for services to development of sustainable communities in the 2023 New Year Honours List.
Helen Goulden OBEDr Al Mathers
Al’s work is driven by her commitment to understanding hidden experiences of place-based exclusion and inclusion. Her PhD and postdoctoral studies focused on the co-design of participatory approaches to landscape architecture and urban design, working with people with learning disabilities, children and underrepresented groups. Her research on the EU programme ‘Making Places Profitable’ explored place-keeping partnerships between communities, policymakers and practitioners.
Dr Al MathersIsabella Pereira
Isabella is a qualitative and mixed methods expert with more than 15 years’ experience in researching vulnerable audiences. Her published work includes case-based research in local authorities on the resettlement of Syrian refugees for the Home Office, on support for vulnerable families as part of the evaluation of the Troubled Families programme and on housing benefit reform for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
Isabella PereiraSiân Whyte
Siân is passionate about delivering insights that enable organisations to increase their impact. She specialises in a range of methodological approaches, underpinned by research-focused BA and MSc degrees. Her role at The Young Foundation involves overseeing research and design projects for national and local clients.

Dan leads our practical social change and innovation work with communities, public systems, and social enterprises. He has worked across the public, private and charitable sectors, and was previously a director of Nesta’s Health Lab.
